PERSON. I WAS DRIVEN. I COULDN’T IDENTIFY ALL THE DRIVE AND WHERE
IT WAS COMING FROM, BUT THAT WAS A WAY POINT IN MY LIFE THAT I

CALL THOSE A WORKAHOLIC, IS THAT WHAT YOU DO?>THERE ARE DIFFERENT STAGES AND
TYPES OF WORKAHOLICS, YES, BUT REALLY WHAT WE’VE GOT TO DO IF
WE’RE FEELING STRESSED OUT AND I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE RIGHT
NOW, WE’VE GOT THE ECONOMY, WE’VE GOT THE UNKNOWN FUTURE,
PEOPLE HAVE LOST JOBS AND EVEN HOMES, THIS IS A TIME OF REALLY
HIGH STRESS, AND SO I WANT TO SPEAK TO THAT BECAUSE THIS IS
VERY REAL AND SOME PEOPLE HAVE BEEN UNDER THIS CHRONIC STRESS
FOR A LONG TIME AND THEY’RE FEELING THE PHYSICAL EFFECTS,
THE BODY PHYSICALLY IS WEARING DOWN. AND SO WE’VE GOT TO LOOK
AT THE WHOLE PERSON IF WE’RE GOING TO CHANGE THIS. BY THAT
I’VE GOT TO LOOK AT MY RELATIONSHIPS, I’VE GOT TO LOOK
AT MY PHYSICAL HEALTH, MY NUTRITION. YOU KNOW, I’M FROM
SEATTLE. EVERYBODY IT SEEMS DRINKS COFFEE IN SEATTLE. YOU
KNOW, ARE YOU HAVING DOZENS OF CUPS OF COFFEE, I MEAN, WHAT’S
GOING IN YOUR MOUTH FOR EXAMPLE? SO WE’VE GOT TO LOOK AT THE
WHOLE PERSON.>YES, BUT YOU KNOW, YOU SAY THAT
STRESS AFFECTS OUR MINDS.>YES.>OUR BODY AND OUR SPIRIT. SO IT
ACTUALLY AFFECTS ALL OF ME, ALL OF ME AS A PERSON.>ABSOLUTELY.>BODY SOUL AND SPIRIT HOWEVER
YOU WANT TO SAY IT. ONE AFFECTS THE OTHER AND YOU AND I WOULD
AGREE ON THAT.>OH YES, IT HAS A RIPPLE EFFECT.
YOU KNOW, THAT’S WHY IT AFFECTS OUR SPIRIT. GOD CAN SEEM REALLY
FAR AWAY WHEN WE’RE STRESSED OUT AND WE CAN BE CRYING OUT TO GOD
AND WE CAN FEEL AT TIMES VERY ALONE IN THAT STRESS.>YOU KNOW HE PROBABLY CAN BE
FAR AWAY AND NOT JUST FEEL FAR AWAY, BECAUSE WE’RE PROBABLY OFF
ON SOME TRACK HE DOESN’T NECESSARILY HAVE US ON AND
SOMETIMES HE LEAVES US ON THOSE TRACKS UNTIL WE COME TO OUR
SENSES SO TO SPEAK AND KIND OF MOVE IN THE DIRECTION HE WOULD
HAVE US TO GO. ANOTHER THING THAT YOU BROUGHT OUT EARLY ON
WAS THE FACT, AND I’VE SAID THIS SO VERY OFTEN GREGORY, WE HAVE
TO BE HONEST WITH OURSELVES, BECAUSE A LOT OF THE STRESS IT
ISN’T THAT WE CAN’T HELP IT, WE CAN BRING A LOT ON OURSELVES.>WILL WE CAN GET USED TO LIVING
WITH A GREAT DEAL OF STRESS AS THOUGH IT’S NORMAL. WE’VE
NORMALIZED THAT STRESS AND GO, THIS IS THE WAY THAT LIFE IS.
WELL, IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THAT WAY. SO AT FIRST AS YOU START TO
REDESIGN YOUR LIFE NOT TO HAVE THAT STRESS CAN FEEL SOMEWHAT
ANXIOUS AND GO, WHAT’S WRONG, I’M SO USED TO BEING STRESSED
OUT.>YOU GET A LITTLE NERVOUS ABOUT
THAT. BUT THEN HERE WE’RE TALKING THIS IS GOING TO BE
PRE-CHRISTMAS BUT CLOSE TO CHRISTMAS AND THERE IS GOING TO
BE THAT HURRYING AND SCURRYING AND EVERYTHING HAS GOT TO BE
DONE. I THINK THAT GOT TO, THAT I’VE GOT TO DO SUCH AND SUCH OR
I HAVE TO GET THESE PRESENTS, I HAVE TO DO THIS, I HAVE TO DO
THAT, WOULD YOU AGREE THAT WITHIN ITSELF IS VERY STRESSFUL
ON OUR BODY MIND AND SPIRIT?>YES, AND SO MAYBE THIS YEAR, WE
NEED TO DECIDE LET’S DO THE CHRISTMAS SEASON DIFFERENT THIS
YEAR. WE CAN DECIDE NOW, AND WE CAN DECIDE I’M GOING TO LIVE
DIFFERENTLY. I’M GOING TO FIRST TAKE ONE WORD OUT OF MY
VOCABULARY, AND THAT’S RUSH. AND I’M GOING TO TAKE ANOTHER WORD
OUT OF MY VOCABULARY, AND THAT’S PRESSURE. I’M GOING TO PUT THE
WORD JOY IN, THIS IS GOING TO BE A JOY TIME; I’M GOING TO DO THIS
DIFFERENTLY.>WHICH IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE.>AND PUT ANOTHER WORD IN, PEACE.
THE JOY AND PEACE SEASON.>WE SING ABOUT IT, BUT WE DON’T
ALWAYS PRACTICE IT, DO WE?>WE NEED TO BEGIN TO CHANGE OUR
MINDS ABOUT IT NOW.>MAYBE JUST HEARING US CAN JUST
SLOW THEM DOWN. I KNOW YOU BRING OUT ABOUT SLOW BREATHING AT
TIMES, QUIET TIMES. I’M GETTING YOUR BOOK THEY’RE RUNNING
TOGETHER FOR ME. BUT SOMETIMES IT IS GOOD JUST TO STOP AND TAKE
SOME DEEP SLOW BREATHS. I’VE DONE THAT MANY TIMES WITH MY
CLIENTS, HAVE THEM BREATHE IN AT THE COUNT OF SIX OR BREATHE IN
AT THE COUNT OF SIX AND BREATHE OUT AT THE COUNT OF SIX. IT’S
AMAZING EVEN WHAT SOMETHING SOME LITTLE SOMETHING LIKE THAT CAN
DO ISN’T IT?>WELL, IT IS. AND ONE OF THE
THINGS THAT WE NEED TO DO IS WE NEED TO HAVE MORE PAUSES IN OUR
DAY. A PAUSE FOR A PRAYER, A PAUSE TO DRINK A GLASS OF WATER.
PAUSES, LITTLE TIMES OF RE-ENERGIZING OURSELVES.>AND ACTUALLY WHILE WE’RE
DRINKING THAT WATER OR HAVING THOSE LITTLE PRAYERS GET INTO
THE MOMENT; GET INTO THE MOMENT OF DOING THAT. EVEN EATING OUR
LUNCH, WE CAN DO THE SAME THING.>OH YES, YES, YES. MANY PEOPLE
WHEN THEY’RE STRESSED, THEY EITHER OVER EAT, OR UNDER EAT.
SO REALLY MAYBE YOU NEED TO KEEP A FOOD DIARY FOR A GOOD WEEK TO
SEE EVERYTHING THAT’S GOING IN YOUR MOUTH. AND SOMETIMES PEOPLE
EAT WAY TOO FAST FROM STRESS BY THE WAY. SO, SLOW DOWN.>ALL RIGHT. THE HOPE WE WANT TO
PUT IT OUT RIGHT OFF THE BAT AS WE TALK ABOUT THIS SUBJECT OF
STRESS. YOU SAY THAT WE CAN CHANGE THE PATTERNS OF THE PAST.
THE PAST DOES WORRY A LOT OF PEOPLE, STRESS A LOT OF PEOPLE.
THEY LIVE WITH AN UNDERTOW OF GUILT, SOMETIMES FEAR AND ALL
KINDS OF STUFF DON’T THEY? SO THEY CAN CHANGE THOSE PATTERNS.
THEY DON’T HAVE TO HOLD ONTO THE PAST. WE’LL COME BACK TO THAT.
THEY CAN ENJOY YOU SAY, A HEALTHY AND REVITALIZED FUTURE
IF THEY’RE WILLING TO LET GO OF THE PAIN OF THE PAST. AND THEN
COURAGE, HOPE AND EXCITEMENT, THAT’S WHAT WE WANT THEM TO HAVE
ISN’T IT?>YES IT IS, ABSOLUTELY.>THE COURAGE TO EVEN LOOK AT OUR
PAST, BUT THE COURAGE TO LET IT GO.>SOMETIMES, WE DON’T REALIZE
THAT OUR PAST IS ACTUALLY CONTAMINATING OUR PRESENT AND SO
WE’VE GOT TO DEAL WITH THAT, WE’VE GOT TO BUILD A NEW
FOUNDATION. IF I HAVE A PAST OF HURTS AND UNFORGIVENESS AND I’VE
BECOME EMBITTERED, I’M CARRYING CHRONIC STRESS JUST THAT. AND SO
AS YOU SAY, I’VE GOT TO DEAL WITH PAST AND I’VE GOT TO
UNEARTH SOME OF THAT, BUILD A NEW FOUNDATION. AND SOMETIMES I
MAY NEED HELP TO DO THAT. MAYBE IT SEEMS BIGGER THAN I AM. YOU
WERE A VICTIM OF SOME TRAUMA OR ABUSE, AND MAYBE YOU JUST FEEL
SO OVERWHELMING AND YOU KNOW, MAYBE I’VE NEVER FORGIVEN THAT.
I’VE GOT TO DO SOME OF THOSE PAST THINGS SO I CAN REDESIGN MY
LIFE FOR THE PRESENT>WELL YOU KNOW SOME PEOPLE THINK
THAT’S BEING WEAK, AND THAT GOD WILL JUST AUTOMATICALLY MOVE IN
AND AS IT WERE CLEAN US UP OR CLEAR OUT OUR LIVES AND THAT’S
NOT TRUE. HE FURNISHES US WITH OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAVE THE
KNOWLEDGE THAT WE MIGHT NEED OR HAVE THE RELATIONSHIP THAT WE
MIGHT NEED. AND I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU THAT HE MADE PEOPLE FOR
PEOPLE. AND WE WERE MADE AS IT WERE SO IT COULD BE EVEN
PROFESSIONAL HELP THAT THEY NEED, ESPECIALLY TO DUMP THEIR
TRASH FROM THE PAST.>YES. AND I KNOW IT CAN FEEL
OVERWHELMING. AND HERE’S A LITTLE CHECK UP TO DO IF YOU
REALIZE, IF YOU LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND YOU SEE AN ANGRY
PERSON, WHICH JUST MEANS A HURT PERSON, IF YOU LOOK IN THE
MIRROR AND SEE A PERSON WITH A LOT OF FEAR AND ANXIETY RIGHT
NOW. OR YOU LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND SEE A PERSON THAT SAYS, I
FEEL GUILTY I FEEL SHAMEFUL. SO THOSE THREE DEADLY EMOTIONS OF
ANGER, FEAR AND GUILT, WE’VE GOT TO DEAL WITH THOSE IF WE’RE
GOING TO DEAL WITH STRESS AFFECTIVELY.>WE’VE GOT TO FIND OUT WHERE
THEY’RE COMING FROM. WHY DO WE FEEL THAT WAY BECAUSE GOD
DOESN’T EXPECT US TO FEEL THAT WAY IF WE CONFESS OUR SINS AND
ASK FORGIVENESS FOR EVERYTHING THAT’S BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION
BY THE HOLY SPIRIT? HE DOESN’T EXPECT US TO CONTINUE CARRYING
THAT DOES HE?>RIGHT>AND THEN YOU TALK ABOUT THE
SIGNS OF EMOTIONAL EXHAUSTION.>YES.>AND ONE OF THEM IS HIGH BLOOD
PRESSURE SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO DEAL WITH HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE.>AND I HAVE TOO.>I CONFESS THAT I TOO. MINE’S
DOING QUITE WELL RIGHT NOW SO I’M REALLY HAPPY ABOUT THAT. THE
TENSION, AND THEN YOU TALK ABOUT ADDICTIONS. IT’S AMAZING HOW
MANY PEOPLE ARE TOTALLY, TOTALLY BEING WIPED OUT BY ADDICTIONS
AND THEN BURN OUT AND ANOTHER SIGN IS THE PASSION HAS GONE OUT
OF OUR LIFE. WE’RE NOT PASSIONATE ANYBODY OR ANYONE OR
ANYTHING ANYMORE. SOME REAL CLEAR-CUT SIGNS OF EMOTIONAL
EXHAUSTION. YOU REMEMBER WHERE WE ARE, WE’RE GOING OUT FOR A
BREAK AND WE WANT TO COME RIGHT BACK THERE, AND WE WILL BE RIGHT
BACK. . MANY OF US FAIL TO UNDERSTAND
WHEN OUR PHYSICIAN INFORMS US THAT OUR PRESENTING SYMPTOMS ARE
“STRESS RELATED.” TOO OFTEN WE TAKE THIS TO MEAN THEY ARE
SAYING THAT OUR PAIN OR ILLNESS IS “ALL IN OUR HEAD” – THAT IT
REALLY DOESN’T EXIST EXCEPT IN OUR IMAGINATION. WHAT THEY ARE
REALLY SAYING IS THAT OUR MIGRAINE HEADACHE, STOMACH
ULCER, HEART PALPITATIONS, PANIC ATTACKS, NECK PAIN AND VARIOUS
OTHER COMPLAINTS CAN BE THE RESULT OF STRESS OVERLOAD OR
MISMANAGEMENT. THEY ARE INFORMING US THAT THEY CANNOT
FIND A BIOLOGICAL OR ORGANIC CAUSE FOR OUR SYMPTOMS.
STRESS-RELATED SYMPTOMS CAN BE REAL AND REQUIRE MEDICATION, AND
PROLONGED STRESS CAN EVENTUALLY INDUCE BIOLOGICAL OR ORGANIC
ILLNESSES. STRESS IS SOMETHING ALL OF US EXPERIENCE IN LIFE,
AND ACCORDING TO EXPERT HANS SELYE, WHEN STRESS MOTIVATES US
TO POSITIVE ACTION IT CAN BE GOOD, BUT WHEN IT PUTS OUR
BODIES UNDER PROLONGED PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL PRESSURE IT CAN
BECOME A DESTRUCTIVE AND UNPLEASANT FORCE. HOW DO WE
DEFINE STRESS? I THINK OF STRESS AS THE DEMANDS PLACED UPON US AS
WE TRY TO SECURE OUR PHYSIOLOGICAL, SOCIAL,
PSYCHOLOGICAL AND SPIRITUAL NEEDS. DAY IN AND DAY OUT WE ARE
FACED WITH REAL AND/OR FEARED SITUATIONS THAT CAN PRECIPITATE
EMOTIONAL INSECURITY AND THREATEN THE LOSS OF CONTROL IN
OUR LIVES. THE REALITY IS IT CAN HAPPEN THROUGH AN ILLNESS,
UNRELENTING PHYSICAL OR EMOTIONAL PAIN – INCLUDING A
PAINFUL PAST, A MARITAL OR OTHER RELATIONSHIP BREAKUP, LOSS OF
OUR JOB, THE DEATH OF A LOVED ONE, ECONOMIC RECESSION, WAR OR
LOSS OF A SENSE OF CONNECTEDNESS WITH GOD AND IN MANY OTHER WAYS.
SINCE STRESS IS UNAVOIDABLE WE ARE FACED WITH THE OPTION OF
LEARNING TO MANAGE OUR STRESS OR ALLOWING OUR STRESS TO MANAGE
US. I SUGGEST LEARNING TO MANAGE IT BY: (1) STAYING IN TOUCH WITH
WHAT YOU ARE TELLING YOURSELF ABOUT YOUR PAST AND PRESENT
STRESSFUL LIFE SITUATIONS; BECAUSE YOUR THOUGHTS WILL
INFORM YOUR EMOTIONS REGARDING WHAT HAS OR CAN HAPPEN TO YOU
AND/OR YOUR FAMILY (2). GETTING THE APPROPRIATE MEDICAL AND
OTHER PROFESSIONAL HELP – EVEN COUNSELING, AS NEEDED. (3)
BECOMING INFORMED REGARDING HEALTHY NUTRITION AND ADEQUATE
EXERCISE (4) MEMORIZING THE SERENITY PRAYER AND PUTTING IT
INTO ACTION. (5) AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, GET INTO GOD’S WORD
AND BECOME A PERSON OF PRAYER – DEPOSITING YOUR ANXIETY WITH HIM

PROMISES, HE WILL BECOME YOUR ANCHOR WHEN THE STORMS OF LIFE

YOURSELF. YOUR SLEEP COULD BE DISRUPTIVE, YOU PROBABLY ARE
OVER DRINKING, LIKE THINGS THAT ARE NOT HELPFUL. YOU’RE PROBABLY
OVER EATING, YOU MAYBE HAVE STOPPED EXERCISING. SO WHEN WE
GET INTO EMOTIONAL EXHAUSTION WE’VE DEPLETED OUR RESERVES>WE CAN ALSO HAVE SLIPPED INTO A
CLINICAL DEPRESSION IN THE PROCESS, CAN’T WE?>YES.>AND THAT IS A DEPRESSION THAT
LASTS LONGER THAN TWO WEEKS, AND WE ARE DEPRESSED, AND WE HAVE
LOST OUR PASSION FOR LIFE AND WE DON’T FEEL LIKE GETTING UP EVERY
MORNING. OR WE MIGHT BE OVERSLEEPING OR UNDER SLEEPING.>WE’RE LOOKING AT THE EXTREMES.>WE’RE LOOKING AT EXTREMES. IT’S
TIME FOR THEM TO SEEK OUT A PROFESSIONAL WHEN THAT’S GOING
ON.>OH IT IS AND IF YOU’VE HAD AN
EMOTIONAL EXHAUSTION YOU KNOW IT’S AFFECTING YOU PHYSICALLY,
IT’S HARD TO MAKE DECISIONS, YOU’RE LOOKING THROUGH THE
LENSES OF A DISTORTED REALITY. AND SOMETIMES YOU’VE GOT TO BE
BIG ENOUGH TO SAY, YOU KNOW WHAT, I NEED HELP. AND THAT’S
WHERE THERE’S HOPE WHEN THEY SAY OKAY THIS IS BIGGER THAN ME, I
NEED HELP.>AND THE LORD, IF WE PRAY, IF WE
PRAY ABOUT IT AND WE WOULD ENCOURAGE THEM TO PRAY ABOUT
WHERE THEY TURN FOR THAT HELP.>THAT’S RIGHT, WE NEED
DISCERNMENT.>WE NEED DISCERNMENT ABOUT THE
KIND OF HELP THAT WE ALLOW OR LOOK TO OR WHATEVER. ONE OF THE
FEELINGS THAT WE DIDN’T TALK ABOUT WAS LONELINESS, GREG. HAVE
YOU SEEN THE STATS ON LONELINESS BEING A LEADING CAUSE OF MENTAL
HEALTH DISORDER? THAT IT IS ONE OF THE LEADING CAUSE OF MENTAL
HEALTH DISORDERS.>AND IF WE’RE STRESSED OUT, AND
WE’RE LONELY, AND WE’RE DISCONNECTED WE BEGIN TO ISOLATE
AND WITH THAT ALONENESS I THINK CAN COME A REAL SENSE OF
HELPLESSNESS. SO YES, AND SOME LONELINESS IS SELF INDUCED AND
OTHER LONELINESS MAY BE SOMETHING WE FEEL THAT HAPPENED
TO US. THE POINT IS WE’VE GOT TO GET OUT OF IT THOUGH.>AND IT CAN COME ABOUT AS A
LOSS OF A SIGNIFICANT PERSON IN OUR LIVES DURING THE GRIEF
PROCESS ALSO. THEN LET’S MOVE ON TO THE WHOLE IDEA OF GUILT, WE
MENTIONED IT. BUT THERE CAN BE A REAL GUILT AND THERE CAN BE A
PSEUDO-GUILT. AND THE REAL GUILT YOU PUT THE PURPOSE IN YOUR BOOK
FOR, AND WHAT’S THAT?>THE REAL GUILT IS TO MOTIVATE
US TO MAKE A CORRECTION. USUALLY IT’S I NEED TO FIX SOMETHING, I
NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. REAL GUILT SAYS I’M SORRY, WILL
YOU FORGIVE ME, REAL GUILT IS ABOUT SELF RESPONSIBILITY AND
YOU KNOW AND FORGIVENESS. YES, AND SO THE ANTIDOTE WOULD BE
FORGIVENESS. FALSE GUILT IS USUALLY SHAME, IT’S USUALLY I’VE
SUPER IMPOSED THIS ON MYSELF, IT’S COMING FROM SOMEBODY ELSE,
AND I HAVE A SENSE OF FEELING GUILTY. THERE IS NO BASIS IN
FACT.>IT CAN’T BE IDENTIFIED AS A
GENERAL RULE. WE CAN PROBABLY CALL IT AN EXISTENTIAL GUILT.
AND THEN FAILURE, LET’S TALK ABOUT FAILURE. YOU SAY THAT
FAILURE IS NEVER FINAL. IT CAN BE GETTING US CLOSER TO OUR
DREAMS, AND I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ON THAT. FAILURE CAN BE A
GOOD THING. THERE ARE SOME THINGS IT’S PROBABLY GOOD THAT
WE FAIL IN SO THAT IT WILL MOVE US ON CLOSER TOWARDS WHERE GOD
WOULD HAVE US GO TOWARD OUR DESTINY AS I CALL IT.>YES AND WE NEED TO BE CAREFUL
WHAT WE LABEL AS A FAILURE. SOMETIMES WE MISLABEL THINGS. IF
YOU LOST YOUR JOB IT DOESN’T MEAN YOU’RE A FAILURE.>BUT WE FEEL IT>YES YES. BUT IF I FEEL LIKE I’M
A FAILURE I START LIVING THAT WAY AND KIND OF TURN THAT INTO
BEING A VICTIM.>I CAN MAKE IT COME TO PASS,
CAN’T I?>WELL YES AND BE CAREFUL ABOUT
THAT. I CAN BE TOTALLY IN THIS MODE OF STRESSED OUT RIGHT NOW.
I CAN FEEL LIKE A FAILURE, I’M NOT HANDLING THINGS RIGHT, I
CAN’T COPE RIGHT AND WE’VE GOT TO BE CAREFUL WHAT WE’RE TELLING
OURSELVES>AND IF WE TELL OURSELVES THAT
WE’RE TELLING OTHER PEOPLE THAT ABOUT OURSELVES.>THAT’S A GOOD POINT.>AND WE DON’T WANT TO DO THAT.
AND THEN YOU’VE MENTIONED SELF CARE ABOUT OUR DIET, ABOUT
EXERCISE, ABOUT WHAT WE’RE WILLING TO DO TO KEEP OURSELVES
IN GOOD HEALTH. AND THAT’S PART OF DIGGING OUT OF THIS EMOTIONAL
EXHAUSTION, ISN’T IT? GETTING INTENTIONAL ABOUT A GOOD DIET,
GETTING INTENTIONAL ABOUT AN EXERCISE PROGRAM. AND WHAT ELSE
WOULD YOU SUGGEST?>I WAS JUST THINKING WE WORK
WITH PEOPLE WHO COME FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY AND I WAS
THINKING OF THE GUY THAT JUST CAME TO MY MIND, HE WAS SO
STRESSED OUT AND HE COULD NOT EVEN WALK AROUND THE BLOCK HE
WAS SO DEPLETED. AND THE OTHER DAY WHEN I LEFT HE WAS WALKING
AROUND THE BLOCK TWO OR THREE TIMES AND HAD A SMILE. AND IT’S
AMAZING HOW QUICKLY, THOUGH, WE CAN REBOUND. BUT YOU CAN BE SO
DEPLETED YOU GO I DON’T HAVE ENOUGH ENERGY TO WALK AROUND THE
BLOCK>BUT YOU HAVE TO PULL YOURSELF
UP BY YOUR BOOTSTRAPS, AND THEY SAY BUT I CAN’T DO THAT BUT YOU
CAN.>SOMETIMES WE NEED SOMEBODY TO
WALK ALONGSIDE US INITIALLY AND WE NEED ACCOUNTABILITY, AND WE
NEED TO BE TEACHABLE>YES WITH MY DEPRESSED PATIENTS
IN COUNSELING I WILL HAVE THEM START OUT IF THEY CAN ONLY MAKE
A HALF-MILE A DAY, THEN STRETCH IT TO A MILE AND THEN MAYBE MAKE
IT TO 2 MILES. THEN THEY BEGAN TO CATCH ON, THIS IS REALLY
HELPING ME AND THEN THEY WILL DO IT ON THEIR OWN. SO WE COULD DO
THAT ABOUT THE EMOTIONAL EXHAUSTION AND BURNOUT ALSO. AND
THEN RECOVERY, YOU SAY, TAKE BABY STEPS. WE DON’T EXPECT
EVERYTHING TO HAPPEN OVERNIGHT ONCE YOU START DIGGING OUT OF
THIS, WHAT IS IT, THIS DARK SEASON OF THE SOUL THAT YOU HAVE
TAGGED IT IN. THESE ARE SOME REALLY GOOD THINGS. I LOVE IN
YOUR BOOK, HOW YOU BRING THE SCRIPTURES OUT AND BELIEVE GOD
LOVES US. MANY PEOPLE DON’T BELIEVE THAT GOD LOVES THEM
GREGORY BECAUSE WE DON’T FEEL LIKE A LOVABLE PERSON. HE CAN
MAKE US A LOVABLE PERSON, THOUGH. NO JUNK FOOD, REFUSE
NEGATIVE THINKING AND NO ACCEPTANCE OF ABUSE. I LIKE THAT
WE’VE GOT TO LEARN TO SET BOUNDARIES, HAVEN’T WE GREGORY?>ABSOLUTELY.>AND SO THEN, WE’RE GETTING
READY TO GO OUT. WE’VE GOT TO LEAVE THEM WITH A SENSE OF HOPE
AGAIN THAT THEY’RE NEVER TO FORGET THAT GOD LOVES THEM AND
WILL EMPOWER AND ENABLE THEM TO MEET THE CHALLENGES THAT THESE
CHANGES APPRECIATE. WHAT’S THE FINAL WORD YOU HAVE FOR THEM?>JEREMIAH 29:11. YOU HAVE A
FUTURE AND A HOPE. YOU MAY NOT FEEL IT TODAY, BUT HOPE COMES
WHEN WE HAVE A PLAN.>WHEN WERE GOING THROUGH A DARK

HE’S NOT OUT TO HARM US BY ALLOWING THAT, HE IS TO DO WHAT
