Shamima Begum’s newborn son dies of pneumonia in Syria


Shamima Begum (Image: NC) A Syrian Democratic Forces official said baby Jarrah died of pneumonia yesterday, aged less than three weeks old  Begum, who left Britain in 2015 and married an IS fighter, was found in a Syrian refugee camp in mid February  She wanted to return to Britain but was stripped of her citizenship. Jarrah was seen as pivotal to the 19-year-old’s bid to be allowed back into Britain  Her sister Renu had sent a letter to Home Secretary Sajid Javid calling for Jarrah to be brought to the UK    Related articles Shamima Begum’s father blames BRITAIN for letting her flee Shamima Begum: Diane Abbott blames Sajid Javid for baby’s death – ‘  She said the baby was “the one true innocent and should not lose the privilege of being raised in the safety of this country”  Yesterday’s tragic news is the latest twist in a long-running series following the former east London schoolgirl’s re-emergence last month  The runaway’s family have urged the Government to allow her re-entry to Britain, despite her allegiance to IS  Her family’s solicitor, Tasnime Akunjee, has blamed the police, her school, and the local authority for failing to act when they realised she was in danger of radicalisation  Begum previously said: “I just was hoping that for the sake of me and my child, they could let me come back ” But she has repeatedly sparked fury with her comments.Shemima’s newborn son died of pneumonia in Syria (Image: Twitter) In one TV interview, she compared the Manchester Arena suicide bombing, which killed 22 people after an Ariana Grande concert, to Allied raids on Syria  Mr Javid had confirmed Jarrah was a British citizen and said at the time that he had considered the child’s interest when deciding to revoke Ms Begum’s citizenship  He told the Commons Home Affairs Committee it would be “incredibly difficult” to facilitate the return of a baby from Syria He added: “Inside Syria, whether in a camp or maybe somewhere else, there is no British consular presence ” Begum was just 15 when she fled with her Bethnal Green Academy classmates Kadiza Sultana and Amira Abase, after telling her parents they were going out for the day  They caught a plane to Istanbul, then went on to Syria where they joined up with IS, each marrying a jihadi fighter
